POLYGLUTAMIC ACID...?!

If you haven't heard of this substance, I wouldn't blame you as I hadn't heard of it myself until I ran across the ingredient in a new skincare product I wanted to try. When it comes to skincare and beauty products and ingredients, I do consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable. I've done quite a bit of research in addition to product testing and reviewing, so when I do find something that I haven't even heard of in the world of beauty- I'm intrigued ;)

Polyglutamic acid or PGA is a polymer of the amino acid glutamic acid; that basically means that a molecule that's repeating over and over until it forms a chain. This chain of molecules is at the cellular level and it's composed of glutamic acid- which is a non-essential amino acid that plays a vital role in our body's nervous system.

As for what polyglutamic acid is used for, there are many various possible uses that range from medicine to water treatment. Cancer patients can receive this as a delivery system for their treatments and there is hope that it can be useful with type I diabetes and possibly even an AIDS vaccine.

WHAT POLYGLUTAMIC ACID DOES FOR SKIN:

In 2007, a study by Ben-Zur and Goldman reported that PGA or Polyglutamic acid had a moisturizing effect on skin and improved its elasticity more than collagen and hyaluronic acid. It's water retention or water-holding capacity was found to be good enough to be considered as an alternative to collagen, glycerol, and hyaluronic acid in skincare moisturizing products.

Further research is needed, but polyglutamic acid was found to be promising in regards to its antimicrobial properties as well- especially agaisnt E. coli, pneumonia,  and S. aureus. Although the study in 2011 by Inbaraj et al. was thorough, more studies will need to be conducted to determine how effective it really is. PGA is edible, environmentally friendly, safe, and even water-soluble- that makes it the perfect skincare moisturizer!

FIRST BOTANY

Ultra Moisture Magnet Serum

$21.50

This hyaluronic acid is one-of-a-kind with a 50X's strength power that really makes all the difference. I've tried a LOT of similar serums and this one really impressed! It was easy to use with a pump designed bottle that lets you get out the perfect amount of product and prevent waste of the product as well.

It dries quickly in under 2 minutes and has no annoying smell. This product from FirstBotany Cosmeceuticals will leave your skin feeling ultra hydrated and smooth, while leaving skin plump and healthy :) The price is just right at around $22 and since you don't need to use but about half of a depress of the pump, you won't have to use a lot of product to get real results.

That makes the Ultra Moisture Magnet Serum a good buy and I'd recommend this one to all ages and skin types. Many similar items tend to break out my skin, however this product has yet to cause that with daily usage which means its a keeper!
