USE THESE 5 SIMPLE TRICKS TO GET THE PERFECT PRIMER APPLICATION:

by Christina

5 TIPS TO SET YOU ON THE PATH TO PRIMER PERFECTION:

  1. One of the first things you want to make sure you start out with?! A good palette laid out for your primer and that begins with HOW you wash your face + what product your choose to do the washing! Avoiding oil-free cleansers or those with high lather will help ensure that your skin is in prime condition ;)

  2. Although you are looking for a matte finish that also allows for makeup to stay put by providing the perfect palette, don't forgo your moisturizer! You can try using a facial lotion that is oil-free and is a lighter, more whipped formula and that still gives you a moisture barrier.

  3. Stick with an easy-to-use primer with a thin, viscous formula so that it will spread properly and evenly on your entire face! An excellent choice is Skindinavia's Spray Primer or try Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Both of these products are great examples how how to get it right, but each offers a different application method and approach! [check out my review of the Hourglass Veil below!]

  4. BEFORE the primer completely dries, lightly tap or dab around your entire face with a beautyblender sponge or similar applicator {a brush would work too}. This step seems to do the trick for me to get even results with the product :)

  5. DON'T pack on the primer! :/ It's super easy to do, but it will only cause your makeup to gather in areas on the skin or not allow it to apply/set correctly. Going easy on just ONE thin coat, is DEF the way to go with primer.

THE BEAUTY CLOSET RECOMMENDS:

Hourglass

Veil Mineral Primer

$18

This is a one-of-a-kind primer and you will notice it from the start! The nicely-made glass container has a well-designed pump action applicator that makes it a breeze getting out the perfect, needed amount of product :)

Hourglass' Veil primer dries quickly in under 2 minutes and will leave your skin in the right condition for the remainder of your makeup routine. The price is mid-range and there are 3 sizes: .33 oz. for $18, 1 oz. for $52, & 2 oz. [Jumbo] for $72. I love that there is an option to purchase the smallest size without committing to a huge price point as well :)

I was able to snag my recent smaller version of this product from Sephora's favorites Beauty Closet and I was happy to get it- I've recently gotten super low with my currently supply so this was a good find! If you have fairly sensitive skin, this will DEF be a product you can enjoy as well!
