WHY YOU SHOULD SKIP THE SODA IN THE FIRST PLACE:
I admit that I might be as guilty as the next person when it comes to liking....and drinking sodas. I guess my love for them started many years ago. My mother was firmly against them and my father not so much, which meant that when I was over at his home to visit I took full advantage of this opportunity that my mother almost never let me have.
Now that I am an adult, I still crave that daily soda...or more! I've been stuck on Sprites the last few years and it's fair to say if I don't have one during the day or run out of Sprites at the house, it might be a bad day around here! I am not in the best of moods and just crave a soda. I decided then, that I needed to make a change and reduce if not eliminate all together my daily soda intake!
According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, there is about 26 teaspoons of sugar in one 32 oz. soda! That really is incredible! It doesn't take much to realize that is probably not going to be good for you on a regular basis. Many studies have been done and preliminary results have found sodas to be a factor in diabetes and weight problems and may even be a factor with hear issues as well.
Link to obesity, kidney damage and certain cancers!
it's possible that regular soda drinking could lead to higher blood pressure!
it can lead to dehydration- the sodium will make you actually thirstier, and the caffeine that's in most sodas will cause you to go to the bathroom more frequently!
weakens bones and teeth- unfortunately this is very true and many of us don't think about these negative effects!
consumption of countless caloric intake with no nutritional value! > this is bad as the calories can add up quickly with sodas and they are all empty calories, full of sugar and caffeine!
