I've run across Calendula officinalis or the common marigold in a few ingredient lists for some beauty and skincare products recently and was actually unaware that it was referring to the marigold that we see every day! It's most likely a native plant to southern Europe and usually contains a yellow to orange-red flower, however the plant's life-span is short-lived. They usually thrive in sunny areas and can grow in almost any kind of soil. Marigolds (common) are also edible and can be used in salads or other dishes to garnish and add some color.

Even the ancient Greeks, Romans, Indian, and Middle-Eastern cultures have used the flower of the plant as medicinal herbs, fabric dyes, food, and for cosmetic purposes. The petals and pollen of the Marigold contains antioxidants which is the cause of the plant's coloring; the stems and leaves are composed of lutein[antioxidant for blue light absorption], zeaxanthin [plays an important role for plants in photosynthesis], and beta-carotenes[red-orange pigment]. The common Marigold has been in numerous medical studies and there are promising results in it providing anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties in skincare!

Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Argania Spinosa Kernel (Argan) Oil, Organic Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Organic Rosa Mosqueta (Rosehip) Fruit Oil, Organic Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Organic Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Oil, Organic Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang) Oil, Organic Boswellia carteri (Frankincense) Oil, Organic Pelargonium roseum asperum (Geranium) Oil

I can't rave enough about this lotion!!! :o It really was a wonderful surprise for an all-organic + vegan formula and I couldn't be happier with the product. It's a different type of facial moisturizer than you might be used to and you will probably notice that right from the start- as I did! Due to the components of the moisturizer's formula, your left with a super-rich looking paste type of material. There's a very light hint of yellow to it as well, but it's not unpleasant to look at.

It also doesn't take much because of the effectiveness and thickness of the product and once you apply it, it almost seems to "melt" away and leave a thin layer of oil. This absorbs into the skin in about 3-5 minutes and what you're left with is beyond soft and smooth skin. This moisturizer from Noveau/Organica is also great for other rough areas like around the elbows and knees- the product will stop these super dry places right in their tracks :) There's really not much of a scent to the moisturizer either and instead you can smell hints of the Ylang Ylang and Rosehip oils.

I'd highly recommend this moisturizer to anyone looking for a good organic or vegan skincare product or someone just looking to add a great moisturizer to their routine. I have fairly sensitive skin myself, and this product didn't cause any irritation or skin issues with continued usage which means that it's a great product for those with very sensitive skin. It's a little on the pricier side at just under $28 for 2 ounces, however you definitely are getting what you are paying for with this product: a top-notch, quality moisturizer that's wonderfully effective- plus you don't need to use much as this product really does go a long way!
