The Golden Bamboo, also known as the Bambusa vulgaris, is native to southern China- it's also the most widely recognized species of bamboo. Bamboos are some of the fastest growing plants in the world too and was introduced in the US by most likely Captain James Cook in the late 18th century in Hawaii. Bamboo is widely cultivated in the US and Puerto Rico where is rumored to have been introduced by the Spaniards in the 1840's, which would make Bamboo the first foreign species introduced to the US by the Europeans.

As for its uses, there are quite a few: the stems are used for fuel, planted for erosion control and ornamental purposes, and also used in construction of temporary shelters and fencing, flooring, walls, and roofs! In India Bamboo is used for raw material in paper pulp as it has excellent tear strength. The shoots can be picked and cooked or pickled to eat as well and are used in a variety of dishes- it's very high in protein in iron which makes it a great addition to meals. Many of people across Asia believe in the medicinal uses of Bamboo too and in parts of the Congo and Nigeria they use the plant medicinally.

what does bamboo do for skin?!?

It's the richest source of natural Silica, with a composition of over 70% of organic Silica contained in Bamboo. As this vital nutrient is lost in the skin as we age, Bamboo helps Silica stimulate cells that encourage strength and collagen production which in turn produces more resilient skin! Bamboo is great at playing a key role in keeping in your skin's moisture, providing a protection barrier, and aiding in preventing and improving the signs of aging! With a richness of antioxidants, Bamboo really does bring great soothing and rejuvenating effects to your hair, skin, and nails :) Your hair's moisture, shine, and strength will be improved and less nail breakage can also be expected.

looking for  a great product that contains bamboo?!? check out the exfoliant from manuka secrets below:

manuka secrets umf 18+ manuka honey exfoliant $29.95

This is one of the BEST exfoliants I've run across and with the power of UMF 18+ Manuka Honey, it's easy to see why it's a good product! I love the creaminess of the formula with just the right amount of consistency of Jojoba pearl [bead] and two sizes of bamboo that are the perfect exfoliants without causing over-drying or irritation! At $30, it's moderately priced too at just under 3.4 ounces and that also means that you will at least have the product for a good while, even with regular usage.

I normally apply this exfoliant twice a week during my normal skincare routine, leave on for about 3 minutes- as the instructions advise as well, and then gently rinse off with cool water. Follow by patting dry and you will really feel an immediate difference in softness, smoothness, and all-around skin healthiness. If you're seeking a good exfoliator to your beauty routine, want to fight the signs of aging or boost skin cell regeneration, or are just wanting a decent organic exfoliant- this is THE ONE to try! I'd recommend this one from Manuka Secrets to even to anyone, including those with super sensitive skin too :)
