You may have seen the term Ayurveda around a bit as I have, and it seems to really have been thrust into popularity over the past couple of years- in skincare and cosmetics especially! I had read very little about it in the past, although I'd always been curious about the details of Ayurvedic origins. It's actually a Hindu system of medicine that's native the India and is considered to be a form of alternative medicine. There are 114 hymns that are described as proposed cures for ailments and diseases.

Some of these concepts form Ayurveda have been found back as far as prehistoric times, with the Bronze age civilizations. The main focus is to promote overall balance and ignoring natural urges can cause ill health as well. A good example would be when someone suppresses a sneeze: Ayurvedic medicine advises this is a bad idea or shoulder pain will result. This example gives way to the other side of the argument when it comes to Ayurvedic traditions- that most of its proposals have no scientific basis :/ However, there have been studies proven that there is some valid usage to Ayurvedic approaches and that perhaps they should be considered for some applications.

There is a Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy {yes- that's really the entire name!} or AYUSH , is a government body located in India that is specifically created to develop education and research in Ayurveda traditional medicine and operates under the Mininstry of Health and Family Welfare. This means that the organization is really serious about determining real benefits of Ayurvedic medicine and what it has to offer. Reverse pharmacology is one of the ways in which Ayurvedic medicine can be utilized in trials research- by breaking down the components of the treatments and testing them in clinical trials for real medicinal benefits.

ayurvedic skincare principles:

1. 3 steps for beautiful skin: cleanse, nourish, & moisturize.

2. to cleanse skin: use ubtans- pastes that are composed of herbs and other natural ingredients like beans and flour!

3. for moisturization: using an unrefined oil to provide skin's protective barrier that locks in moisture is the way to go!

4. eat a healthy diet of veggies & whole foods and avoid things that are fried and full of fats, sugars, & salt- these things will only cause breakouts!

5. exercise at4-5 x's a week, until you work up a decent sweat- your circulation is increased and toxins are rid from the body!

6. try practicing yoga at least a couple of times a week, as it promotes overall health and skin will regain its vitality and glow :)

This was a product that I was very happy I tried, the moment I gave the product a chance and opened it up :) I'm super picky with facial moisturizer and serums- especially when they make organic claims. Complete Skin Solutions did an excellent job of creating a mild yet effective facial moisturizer and serum all in one product...AND they did it with organic and natural ingredients! The formula is also Gluten and Paraben-free which allows for even those with sensitive skin such as myself to use the product with no adverse reactions :)

I really LOVE the design of the bottle- the simple design that actually works is something I don't always run across when it comes to similar products. The pump mechanism on this one is a dream and it lets you get out just the right amount of product without wasting it and making a mess. I usually don't even need a full depression on the pump to get out what I need for application as the formula is well-made and goes on evenly and lightly as it should, but it absorbs well into the skin with great results.

I noticed much more smoothness and softness after the first usage. It's a great product for under the eyes as well since it didn't seem to bother the sensitive skin around my eyes one bit AND it really helps lighten up that area too! I've been ultimately VERY pleased with this serum from Complete Skin Solutions and I would recommend this one to anyone looking for a great serum to add to their skincare lineup or just want to look refreshed and glowing for the day! This would also be an excellent product for the summer months and at a decent price at just under $20 you really won't be digging too deep into your purse either ;)
