Commonly known by GSE- Grapefruit or sometimes called citrus seed extract, is extracted from the seeds, pulp, and membranes of the grapefruit. If the extract is created via natural processes, then it will usually be ground up Grapefruit seed and pulp- containing no juice. This mixture is then combined with glycerin and is often included in many cosmetics due to its antimicrobial properties.
The grapefruit goes back quite a few years and can be found with its first documentation around 1750, by Rev. Hughes, while describing the species that he'd seen from Barbados. In fact, the citrus or grapefruit tree was originally named the "forbidden fruit" of Barbados, at one point in time. It was in Barbados that the Grapefruit was born as an accidental cross between the sweet orange and the pomelo- both of whom were introduced to Barbados from Asia.
By 1823, the fruit had made its way all the way to the US in Florida, by Count Philippe. It was in the US that the pink grapefruit was created in one of the largest American groves in history called the Atwood Grove- it put out 80,000 boxes of fruit per year. Grapefruit seed extract contains antioxidants, ascorbic acid [Vitamin C], citric acid, sterols, flavonoids, and other minerals.

Carapex really does know how to make quality AND affordable organic skincare products, which is why I had a very good feeling that I was going to LOVE this product..and I was definitely correct on my assumption ;) This is however, the first of Carapex products from their Pure Mauve line that contains high-quality Australian Tea Tree Oil and I was really excited to see how well the line matched up!
The dark purple bottle is easy to use, with a push-open top that allows for application in a snap. I use about 3-5 drops on a cotton ball and lightly dab on my entire face and neck area. There is a slight scent of Tea Tree Oil that does linger, but it's not overpowering or unpleasant. It dries quickly- in under a minute and it good for use under your primer/makeup as well.
The Invigorating Facial Toner is a great example that you don't have to spend a ton of cash or use harmful ingredients in order to get a great product!
