HAVE YOU BEEN GIVING YOUR SCALP THE ATTENTION IT NEEDS? HAIR RESTORATION EXPERT DR. BAUMAN HAS SOME EASY TIPS TO HELP:

by Christina

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR SCALP LATELY?!?...

Although I'm sure that most of us have our hair-routines down pat, we may not always think specifically about our scalp care. I admit it's not usually at the top of my mind when considering my hair care needs-BUT it should be! How you treat your scalp and the level of healthiness at which its maintained, can make all the difference between having healthy hair and being left with dull and lifeless hair instead!

During the summer months it can really be a challenge to keep a healthy scalp AND hair with all of the continual heat, sun, wind, and exposure to chlorine {from pools} & salt {the beach}. I recently had the wonderful opportunity of getting some expert advice from the board-certified hair restoration physician Dr. Alan Bauman, on some healthy scalp tips and I wanted to share with all of you :) Check them out below!

who is dr. alan bauman?

He is also one out of 100 doctors in the world that's achieved certification from the American Board of Hair Restoration surgery, in addition to being a member of the IAHRS (International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons) and a fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).

Dr. Bauman has written numerious articles and textbook chapters on the science of hair care, hair transplantation, and even eyelash transplant surgery- including newer and less-evasive hair-loss technologies like NeoGraft FUE hair transplantation and laser therapy! With all of the great expertise and training, it's easy to see that Dr. Bauman really is one the world's BEST experts in his field!

dr. bauman's healthy scalp tips:

1. use the same practice of exfoliation for your face as you do for your scalp! after exfoliating, you can apply a moisturizing treatment to help add back hydration.

2. pH is super important when it comes to your scalp as it protects it from bacteria and pathogens-disrupting your pH of your scalp with the "wrong" shampoo can cause itching, dandruff, and irritation!

3. boost antioxidants naturally with veggies and other plants-free radicals can trigger shedding and weakened hair growth by affecting your scalp and hair follicle function :/

4. dry scalps should avoid harsh shampoos, but if you have an oily scalp/hair try using a deep cleansing shampoo with essential oils that also have an excellent "astringent" ability.

dr. bauman's scalp advice for summer:

1. hydration is the key!!! if you want to avoid a dry and flaky scalp- keep hydrated :)

2. seek out hair care products that contain built-in Uv protection= this will help protect your scalp and hair from the sun's harmful rays!

3. Try and ditch the heating elements such as your hair dryer or curling iron during the summer months, but if you do- utilize a heat-protective product beforehand.

4. if you can, avoid chlorine and if unable, try using a pre-swim conditioner or oil treatment which will help provide a barrier from the chlorine which only strips your hair of its natural oils :(

5. rinse any chlorine that you may have in your hair at the end of the day and a clarifying shampoo can be really helpful in helping to remove it and prevent damage!
