MAKEUP KIT REVIEW: TARTE- BE YOUR OWN TARTEIST 7-PIECE ESSENTIALS SET

by Christina

A QUICK MENTION OF WHO TARTE IS...

I really like Tarte...I did right from the start when I first discovered them a few years ago! They have fantastic products with great quality, healthy ingredients, and adorable product packaging. Maureen Kelly started the company in 1999 out of her own apartment with the goal of bringing cruelty-free, organic, and eco-chic products to the beauty market. ALL of their products are formulated without: Parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances, and gluten! As an added bonus, they care about the environment through their Rainforest support cooperatives and are developing sustainable products that can help prevent waste in the environment as well.

WHAT'S MY VERDICT?

I was very happy with the kit...and everything that came in the collection! I really do consider this to be rare as usually there is at least one product that I really don't care for in makeup sets and beauty kits. This set by Tarte however, didn't really fit that bill and I did have quite a hard time finding anything wrong with it!

Let's start with the Maracuja Micacle Founcealer; I absolutely LOVED this product- very smooth finish with an airbrushed look as a result. It did a good job of softening lines and not settling in them! It didn't feel like I really had makeup on my face, yet it provided nice coverage :) I had noticed a lot of others had commented on how they did not care for the dropper bottle that this product came in, but I actually completely disagree. It's a different method firstly, so it has to be used differently and I am not sure if some may have understood that it's not the conventional dropper that you might have come to expect. When pushing the dropper's button, a small amount of product is dispensed, by being pushed out when the two pieces inside the dropper push together. It sounds a little strange, but I do think I may understand the method to the madness. I imagine it has to do with the product and its consistency, but it's only my best guess :) The product scent is really the only thing I thought could have been improved- it's not bad at all, but I do think it could have been better. That being said though, it's a fantastic product that provides a very smooth finish and nice coverage that lasts.

The brushes are personally my FAVS in the kit :) They are SUPER quality with well-made, soft bristles and nicely weighted bamboo handles. The brushes honestly, make up the price of the kit themselves, so the $60 price was super easy for me to justify! I would have purchased these separately if offered, so I was happy to be able to snag them in this awesome kit from QVC. The work well and are easy to clean too!

The palette was probably my 2nd FAV in the entire collection. Although a couple of the colors were a little darker than I would have liked, but the colors ended up looking very nicely-even on my fair skin :) The blush was also very complimentary, which is also something that can be difficult for me to match with my super fair skin. As an added bonus, the base is just beyond cute and a very nice gold cover and a purplish hued mosaic top.

As for the mascara, it was a bonus duplicate for me as I do already have an unopened full size for backups :) I love the formula and have used in the past, so I knew it was good before I even purchased the kit! The one difference with this one, would be the container itself which has the matching purplish mosaic print on the wand's cap. If you haven't tried Tarte's mascaras, Gifted is a fantastic one to try. It's from their Amazonian Clay line and I have LOVED ALL the products in that line as the Amazonian Clay really seems to make a quality difference in the products' formulas.

Lastly, I wanted to touch on the LipSurgence Liquid Lip Shine in the color exquisite. I have also tried this product before, but NOT in this color ;) I was actually a little hesitant that I wouldn't care for the color as it's more on the berry side, but it compliments my skin tone very well. In fact, I would say that it's going to go well for most skin tones, as the berry is not quite the bright color it appears to be in the tube and is fairly flattering. When looking at the formula itself, it's not sticky and has good lasting power.
