SHISEIDO ....A NAME BRAND I KNEW LITTLE ABOUT:
I had heard of the name before in regards to it being beauty related, but I really didn't know much more that that. After doing some searching, I was able to find out that the company has surprisingly been in business for over 140 years and was founded as the first Western-style pharmacy in Japan! By 1957, the company had taken their products globally. The company also owns other brands and subsidiaries: Bare Escentuals, IPSA, Joico, and NARS just to name a few! One awesome claim to fame for Shiseido, is that they were the first company to produce Hyaluronic Acid from NON-ANIMAL sources! :)
THE MEANING OF SHISEIDO:
I found this a very interesting little tid-bit about the name itself and its meaning. It comes from the Yi Jing, from the Four Books and Five Classics of Confucianism. It's literally translated as: "praise the virtues of the earth which nurtures new life and brings forth significant values".
WHAT PRODUCT I DECIDED TO REVIEW: SHISEIDO MAQUILLAGE 3d EYES CREATOR PALETTE limited edition #GR764*
*Varies in price...IF you can find-beware there are some products that may NOT actually be Shiseido! I paid a little bit for mine> around $50, but it WAS from a verified and reputable seller of official Shiseido products :)
This palette did come out a few years ago in Japan, but was also a limited edition makeup eye shadow palette too! This product form Shiseido did not come out in the US as far as I could tell so that may have been why it was very difficult for me to find anywhere; I ended up having to buy from an overseas buyer just to get it and I probably paid more than retail for it. The other problem after it arrived, was that I could NOT read the palette info such as the color names, but since they were numbered I was able to tell which tool went with each color and type of eye shadow. There were two types of eye shadow in the palette with a total of 5 colors: two of them were gel or cream type shadows and the other 3 were traditional, but high-quality powder eye shadows. The picture unfortunately, just does NOT do this palette justice at all! Each color in the palette is VERY pretty with lots of sparkle and prismatic effects. There are also adorable tiny cute space-themed designs on the two cream shadows :) As for the other three eye shadows, they are just beautiful! I was well-impressed with how soft and highly-pigmented they were, so it did not take much to apply nice buildable and blendable layers! The foam brush was ok, just the usual run-of-the-mill foam shadow applicator. The tiny double-ended eye shadow brush was a different story though! For such a very tiny brush, it was excellent quality and I could actually use! I was able to match its use- one side for the creamy eye shadow and one for the middle powder shadow by the number system provided on the clear insert that came with the palette. An awesome bonus with the palette is that when you do eventually use up the palette or just feel its time for a change, it has the ability for each of the shadows to be removed and swapped out for others! They will slide and snap out of place which allows for you to throw in some new; the mirror that's part of the compact itself it wonderful and a good quality mirror instead a cheap or bad quality plastic one. All the shadows had a VERY silky feel to them, long-lasting, and would be great colors for the upcoming spring season!
