WHAT EXACTLY IS A FACIAL TONER?
Many of us may have heard about facial toners and might be using them in our daily skincare regimen already, BUT do you know what they actually do for your skin?! In the cosmetics world, toners usually come in the form of a wash or lotion and are designed to not only cleanse the skin, but also reduce pore size, exfoliate, and provide excellent moisturization!
MORE THAN ONE TYPE?!
- SKIN BRACERS OR FRESHNERS- these usually come in the mildest forms and are made of water and humectants such as glycerine; a good example would be Rosewater.
- SKIN TONICS- these tend to be stronger and may contain a little bit of alcohol, up to 20%; they can also include water and a humectant as the skin bracers do.
- ASTRINGENTS- the strongest of the skin toners and can have the highest concentrations of alcohol, with levels from 20-60%; besides water and a humectant as the tonics and bracers contain, they can be composed of antiseptic ingredients too.
top facial tonic i recommend:
oz naturals- ocean mineral tonic $21.99
KEY INGREDIENTS: Ocean Minerals, Organic Sulfar, Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
This is one of the BEST toners I've use hands down! What I really LOVE about it is that it contains Glycolic Acid, MSM, and Vitamin C; these are all ingredients that combined make a fantastic formula that is quite effective. I can literally feel my pores shrinking when I lightly mist this on my face before my serums, moisturizer, and then makeup. The softness of my skin and the firmness that is gets too after I use this product is really noticeable.
I only have to use about 2-4 light spritzes to mist my face with a fine layer that dries in a snap! You can use this product throughout the day as well for a quick pick-me-up. Although it's a little pricier than some facial tonics I've found in the past, this one does come in a generous 4 ounce size and you're getting a quality product that's made with organic ingredients too :)
There's a very hint of a light scent, but its something that I don't really notice at all once the product dries within a few seconds. The scent is not heavy and you smell parts of the Aloe and Witch Hazel that are at the top of the ingredients list. If you're looking for a good toner to add to your skincare routine or are wanting to start out with one- this is an excellent choice!
