Want to Get Healthy & Happy Skin Naturally?
This is something that I've become personally dedicated to doing for quite a while...I discovered many years ago that when it comes to beauty and skincare products- many companies don't care what their products are actually doing to our bodies OR the environment :/ The good news is that this is changing, but there's still a LOT of progress to be made!
Here in the U.S., we haven't updated our laws concerning what ingredients are allowed in our products- since the 1930's :0 We've ban 11 chemicals and ingredients that we consider to be harmful, yet the U.N. for example as banned over 1,000! There's been a recent movement by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and beauty/personal care companies to change this legislation in the U.S. The bill was introduced by Sen. Feinstein in April of last year, has not yet passed, & is still pending in Congress for further consideration.
Companies are currently not responsible for the products they are putting out and if they are truly safe- the FDA currently does not have authority to require the product to complete pre-market approval and testing. The FDA also can't require these companies to report adverse reactions and it's instead voluntary! With proposal of changes with the new legislation, this will all change and brands will have to report adverse reactions- and within a timely manner :)

The Beauty Closet Recommends:
The Natural Beauty Skincare Deck
The author of this unique natural beauty deck is someone you may have heard of if you're into the world of natural & organic beauty. Katrina has written and been featured on places like: About.com, Natural Health Inforum, & Beauty Butler- just to name a few! She's also been a natural skin care creator for over 15 years, coming up with botanical product options. As an active educator, Katrina encourages women to be naturally beautiful- at any age AND how to avoid the spiral of cosmetic surgery in order to stay beautiful.
You can visit her site at expertskincareadvisor.com and Katrina is available for a free 15 minute consultation for skincare advice and she also has some of her fantastic natural skincare products available for purchase. These products are free of artificial fragrances, bleach, chemicals, colors, and fillers- plus they are hand-crafted and curated locally. Katrina's products are moderately-priced, ranging from $8 for a Conditioning Lip Balm to a $36 Restore Youth Facial Oil.
As for The Natural Beauty Skincare Deck, this item is offered through deckopedia.com [click on the picture above to go to the product page] and contains 64 color-coded cards in the deck. For starters, I love the cute and well-made box that holds the deck for safe-keeping. It sets easily up-right and is a cinch to open without having the cards fall out all over the place.
There's a tri-fold card that comes with it and it contains a bit of into about the author and a "Before You Get Started" section- that contains quick tips to use before giving the recipes a try. There's also a section on this informational card that offers u a "Skincare Treatment Order" from Katrina and even a bit of instructions on using the deck itself, titled "How to Start Using This Deck". On the backside of this insert, there's a well-organized Table of Contents that is sectioned off by skin concern or issue.
When it comes to the deck itself- it's fantastic! There are tons of easy recipes with much of the ingredients being things that are probably in your house already. Each double-sided card contains instructions on how to prepare the proposed beauty recipe- including how much time it will actually take to prep! They also each have a section for use or application, with detailed instructions on how to apply and the frequency too. Katrina even has the shelf life & how to store each recipe, so you have the opportunity to save your creation!
I'm a big fan of the "Tip Cards" that are in every skincare concern/section, as they have quick do's & don'ts that are based on the skincare issue/type. The cards and the included box are both coated so that if you do happen to get a bit of something on them accidentally while making your recipe, that's okay! You can wipe it off and you still have a nice deck of natural skincare recipes.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this deck for any skin type and for any age! This is a very affordable item that anyone can benefit from and this also makes a wonderful Mother's Day gift too ;) At just under $20, you can afford to snag one for yourself as well!
