Along the way, I continually scope out fantastic beauty products and tools that I feel are healthy & good for your skin- not harmful and bad for you & the environment. The Beauty Closet Recommends:
The Art Of Aroma
Farah is an Aromachologist or a professional specializing in the art of using scents or essential oils in order to illicit emotional and physical benefits to the user. This means that they are experts on how and which certain smells positively effect our behavior and psyches. The author started to get into aromatherapy and scents in general when she was a teenager and worked in an aromatherapy shop.
After earning a degree and gaining knowledge in Eastern Disciplines like Yoga, Farah moved to South Florida and started up Aroma360. This awesome company specializes in diffusers, candles, and essential oil sprays in scents such as: eucalyptus, lemon flower, green tea, wild bamboo, jasmine, verbena, Damask rose, pink pomelo grapefruit, & more!
What I like about Farah's approach with this book, is that it takes a practical one from the beginning- starting with the history of aromatherapy and the ancient Egyptian usage and cont. on to other ancient civilizations. Ever wandered if there is actual science behind scents and their influence on our lives? She does a great job of explaining the real science backing the study of scents and why they do what they do.
One of my fav aspects of the book are the tid-bits scattered throughout labeled Scent Facts, that are fantastic offers of valuable information on various scent-related topics. For example: "Fragrances marketed for women can be classified into six different groups. The groups are Floral, Oriental,.....". There are also Case Studies scattered in various spots, that share tales of different companies and organizations that were directly influenced by the power of scent or how they utilized aromatherapy to positively benefit their businesses.
Chapter 4 has each essential oil broken down into "families", with details provided on what they can do both physically and mentally. This section is followed by a quick reference guide to scents and their uses as well. Want to know how we as consumers are influenced by scents in a variety of commercial settings? You might be thinking at this point....um, why in the world would I care?! I found this portion of the book to be the most informative as it covered a variety of situations that we all often find ourselves in, on a daily basis...and we often have no idea we're being influenced by the actual fragrance in the room! :0
What's great, is that Farah offers up her advice on how to accomplish your own "scentscaping"- a technique that often occurs in the commercial setting. She ends The Art of Aroma with a chapter on aroma and how they affect emotions- how scent really is more powerful than we may realize.
