The Meadowfoam Plant...?
Although this plant might feature an odd name of sorts, it's native to North America and comes in 7 different varieties that all grow in coastal and adjoining regions- such as valleys, foothills, & mountains. One particular species of the plant that was thought to have been extinct, was only recently re-discovered in the late 1950's on Trial Island, BC. Generally, the Limnanthes alba species that's commonly known as the white meadowfoam, can be found in grasslands and is cultivated for its seed oil.
The seeds are harvested as they contain up to a 30% oil content and the oil is not only extraordinarily stable due to its 98% long chain fatty acid content, but its widely used for cosmetic and hair care applications due to its ability to stay on the skin. It allows the skin to provide a protective, lubricated barrier that locks in moisture and prevents it from escaping as well. Want to try out the benefits of meadowfoam for yourself?
