Rimmel:
The Lowdown!
Commonly known by the name Rimmel London, Rimmel is a British cosmetics brand that's currently owned by Coty, Inc. Coty is a U.S. based beauty products manufacturer that you may have heard of as well- that might be because they are one of the largest beauty products manufacturers in the world with over $9 billion in revenue in 2016 :0 Started in 1904, Coty set out to provide fragrances, color cosmetics, and skin & body care products; their brands include well-knowns like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Philosophy, OPI, Sally Hansen, and Rimmel! Rimmel was founded by Eugene Rimmel as a perfumery in the mid 1830's in London, England.
Rimmel became well-known for many makeup products, including his best-known product: mascara! In fact, in many Mediterranean languages, the world 'rimmel' is a term synonymous with mascara. Rimmel's company creed is "Get the London look"- taking a look at the company's beginnings, it's easy to see how motto came about. Everyone from Kate Moss to Zooey Deschanel have been the faces of Rimmel to help launch the brand to new global heights. Luckily, I was able to snag up one of these coveted boxes from Rimmel recently that includes a lot of their latest and top products and you can imagine my wonderful surprise when it arrived ;) There are so many goodies, it was hard to decide what I would try first! There were some stand-outs in this box and a couple of items that I was disappointed in- let's start with my least fav's and get those out of the way! Firstly, I don't often use drug-store brands as they can sometimes break me out or my sensitive skin shows adverse reactions. However, I've heard and read quite a bit of positive things about the brand and I wanted to give them a solid chance so I delved right in when the box arrived. I decided to go ahead and give most of the products a try with my next makeup routine to get a good opportunity to see what they were really all about!
Although I absolutely loved several of the eye shadow shades in the Grunge Glamour palette, I found that they didn't have as good of a lasting power as many of my shadows often do; the pigmentation is fairly decent and I did find that if I touched up my shadow at least once during the day, it managed to stay looking fab...it just did take a bit of more work as normally I don't need to do this during the day. The Medium Dark Insta Flawless Skin Tint shade, in addition to the Moisture Renew Lipstick shades in Dashing Raspberry and Diva Red were a bit too dark for my super fair skin tone. As for the rest of the items in the box, they were 'wins' and I've actually added some of them to my current makeup routine as a result!
Let's start with the Insta Flawless Skin Tint in Light Medium- I love the creaminess that's also lightweight and does a great job of evening and brightening my skin, without caking or feeling gross. It dries nicely and works really well underneath my foundation and concealer; it also works nicely all on it's own if you're going to an easy makeup day or want a natural look but you still want to brighten and even the skin tone :) Apply with a beautyblender sponge for example and it looks flawless!
The Insta Fix & Matte Translucent powder is perfect for touch-ups or for applying underneath the eyes for use with the makeup technique, baking. It does an excellent job at keeping your makeup matte and absorbs oil well too! My 3rd top item out of the entire box was the ScandalEyes Mascara- it does a great job of separating the lashes, while also giving it good volume and lengthening power.
As for the eyeliners, they were surprisingly just as effective and easy to use as the more expensive ones I currently use- except they cost half the price! My fav shade is definitely the blue shade; it really pops and glides on with ease. The color doesn't fade or smudge and stays put for all-day staying power. I discovered that the first two lip shades listed above were perfect colors for my fair skin and didn't find that I had to apply them too often as their pigmentation was fairly decent. When used in combo with the clear lip liner, it won't bleed or move!

Lastly, let's take a look at the Brow This Way brow gel. I wasn't a big fan of the application wand and that's mostly due to the fact that I have fairly sparse brows due to years of over-plucking. What I discovered that did work out well however, was to use a brow tool to dip down into the brow gel and then apply on my brows in short small strokes. There are 3 shades and I found that the Medium Brown and Dark Brown to match my natural eye brows the best; the darker shade filled in sparse spots in my brows well.
The slight downside to the brow gel is that although I found it to be fairly easy to use and it dried quickly, while also filling in my sparse brows- it didn't have quite the same lasting power that some of my current brow products seem to feature. This is partially due to the gel formula, which I've sometimes noticed doesn't always stay put for me, hours after application- or it's not waterproof/sweat-proof. That means that it might not want to be a product you want to stick with during the hotter months or if you're going swimming for example. I was happy with the end results and liked how natural my brows looked after using a combination of the medium and darker brown brow gel shades.
Overall, I was fairly happy with the quality for the pricing on the majority of the items and if you're looking for an affordable brand that features on-trend shades & options, Rimmel is definitely one to give a try. The best part? You won't break the bank doing it!
