Want Natural Skin Hydration for Summer?
This Tiny Fruit...Can Save the Day!
Always on the hunt for natural and organic ingredients that solve everyday skincare needs, it was no surprise this one caught my eye ;) This tiny fruit jumped on my radar recently with a fabulous body lotion I came across from Korres (be sure to check out my awesome recommended review of this product, below!) and I was blown away from the hydrating power it noticeably provided, throughout the day! But, let's find out a bit more about this tiny fruit, before we jump right in to how it provides awesome moisturizing power!
The olive is actually a species of small tree found in the Mediterranean, but has been found as far east as China :0 The olive's fruit- also called the olive, is the top source for the world's olive oil and is one of the key ingredients utilized in Mediterranean cuisine. There are hundreds of cultivars of the olive tree, providing a fairly decent variety of color, size, shape, and even in the way in which the tree grows! It appears that humans have eaten the olive for around 6,000 years; in fact, olives were grown commercially as far back as 3000 B.C., in Crete. They are not however native to the Americans, but luckily Spanish explorers brought the tree to the New World. This is where the plant prospered- which is now present-day Peru and Chile.
Now, we get to the interesting part....what exactly does this tiny fruit that can be eaten and used in cooking, have to do with achieving hydrated, soft, smooth, healthy, & beautiful skin? Plenty! The ancient Greeks were the first to discover this as they massaged olive oil on their hair and bodies as a part of their regular personal care routine. It was also used to anoint their kings and athletes, in addition to serving as the Olympic games "eternal flame" :0 The Greeks revered olive oil and used it a personal care item and in important instances, with important people- so they must have known its awesome natural skincare benefits!
Olives offer up a super rich source of Vitamin E (25% dv) and antioxidants that aid in reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, age spots & discoloration from sun exposure and scars, and it even helps with smoothing & moisturizing the skin! Plus, get stronger, hair, nails, and healthier hair with daily application. The best part? Olive oil provides a natural skin hydrating source, without causing irritation :)
