Cactus: The Surprising Skincare Hero
I'm sure you might be wondering why I would even suggest that a spiny plant more commonly known for inflicting pain, would also be a skincare hero....but that's just what it is! Why? Let's start with a little background on this unique plant itself. There are over 1,700 known species of cacti and they can occur in a variety of shapes and sizes- although they are usually found in climates that go through at least some type of rainfall shortage or drought.
The tallest species can grow to heights of over 60 ft. and the smallest cacti can average .4 in. in diameter- when mature :0 Because of their extremely dry habitats, cactus have specialized thick, fleshy skin that can store water. What's super unique about cacti, is that they go through a portion of their photosynthesis at night. For most plants, these actions usually take part during the day, but the cactus does this to greatly reduce the amount of water loss that many plants experience daily.
So what exactly does it do for the skin? Cactus- especially the fruit, contains high concentrations of Vitamin C & antioxidants- both are free-radical assassins! There was also a study conducted in 2006, that concluded the antioxidative & reduction in DNA destruction activities to be increased with cactus pear fruits extract. This means that it's potential for fighting the signs of aging are there too... and that makes the cactus an awesome natural skincare hero ;) Want to see how this awesome this plant really is? The Beauty Closet Recommends:
[3 re-usable sets]*
I love putting a set in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes or the fridge for up to 30 minutes, before taking these little miracle-workers out of their packaging. There are 3 sets of eye gels total, in each package; the sets are individually sealed and contains: cactus collagen, Arbutin, Vitamin's C, E, & B3, Hyaluronic Acid, natural glycerin, essential oils, and Aloe Vera! The patches feel like a soft gel, so they are super comfortable and actually feel quite nice on the skin. I get a cooling sensation during application and my eyes look and feel so rejuvenated!
If you are looking for a natural way to prevent and fight the signs of aging, this is an excellent alternative that takes little effort. You can start by letting these patches rest underneath your eyes or on the eyelids, for up to 30 minutes at a time. When you begin treatment, you can follow the suggested guidelines of 3 consecutive application days- at the above 30 mins. ea. day.
Once the initial treatment week has been completed of 3 applications, stick with once-a-week. Frownies also offers up a moisturizer, the Rose Water Hydrator Spray [$12.95] and this is great for applying to your patches and then placing them in a bag and into the fridge for storage, when not in use. This also helps in keeping them from drying out and the product prolongs their usage too! :) You will see a noticeable difference in the reduction of the fine lines around your eyes, and improvement in smoothness, and increased skin tone evenness!
