Does a Blue LED Light Actually Fight Acne?
I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about this unique approach to banishing acne and achieving clear skin. But I also like to try and keep an open mind about things too- especially if I discover that there's actual research that gives it genuine validity. Which is exactly what I found when I started digging deeper on how effective this treatment really is :)
Turns out, that utilizing a blue LED light therapy approach is not only a proven method that works- but there's real science behind why it works! In a paper written in 2009 in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology from M.D. Michael Gold & other medical professionals, a medical study was conducted on the effects of "self-applied blue light therapy for mild-to-moderate facial acne". The results showed that those participating experienced a significant reduction in pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and breakouts.
Many of the subjects also expressed with dissatisfaction that their previous attempts and methods to rid their acne, but that the self-applied blue light treatments were just the opposite: they felt that this type of approach was better for their condition, easy, safe to use, and okay to utilize on their own- without doctor supervision.
The Mayo Clinic also advises on their site, that Light Therapy is an effective treatment for acne and lists possible minor side-effects. Want to know more? The Beauty Closet Recommends:
Let me start out by saying that when it comes to what's out there in regards to blue LED light therapy treatment tools for acne, there are quite a few currently out on the market. There are quite a few problems with many of them and it usually amounts to cost, weight, quality, and ease-of-use. Thankfully, all of that completely goes out the window with this device from me clear and what you get is the perfect little tool to do an effective job.
I've had the opportunity to also snag some of the more expensive and larger models, with a couple of these claiming more features. I've found however that over time, the bulbs have started to prematurely burn out, the charge doesn't hold very long, or they end up being too heavy to constantly handle. Even if you have a bit of decent arm or upper-body strength, they do get tired more quickly with a unit that weighs 5 x's as much! With this little guy, you won't feel like your holding a ten pound weight if you utilize it for a few minutes total for treatment.
It arrived in a small box that included the unit, a usb charging cord, a quick-reference guide, and an instruction booklet. It recommends that you charge it for 4 hours the first time, before actually using- so I made sure to plug it up right away once it was un-boxed. While you are waiting for it to charge, check out the included instructional mini-book as it does include some valuable information on the precautions, benefits of the device, trouble-shooting steps, the warranty instructions, & the device specs.
The quick reference guide is super easy and helpful though- it will get you fully set up and ready to go. I would recommend however, that you still check out the instruction booklet too, to ensure that you don't miss any important information like any precautions with usage, etc. It does recommend in this quick guide to use the tool 3 times a day for best results, which is also what I've chosen to do. As there is a built-in timer for 2 mins. a small area or blemish, you won't waste time or over-treat.
It's not super noisy although there is a bit of sound, my fiance didn't find it annoying with me using the device while sitting in close proximity. It's very easy to hold as well, fitting in your hand with little effort. It's not too heavy and won't start buzzing/vibrating or using its blue LED lights until it touches your skin. Once you've found the area/blemish you would like to treat, lightly press down and hold in place until the timer beeps- then move on to the next area.
I have noticed that this awesome little tool in particular, will hold a charge for several days and that's after daily usage- at 3 x's a day! :0 Another awesome feature of me clear, is that it offers up gentle warming, while simultaneously vibrating & providing blue LED light therapy. With all 3 of these unique treatments combined, it's no wonder you get results with this tool! I noticed an improvement by the next morning, after just one treatment in the evening.
I've only seen my skin get better with each use and have been using for over a couple of weeks now. I haven't had any breakouts since I began using it daily and I've actually seen areas of my face stay completely clear, that I haven't seen breakout-free in a long time! Because of the fit-in-your hand size and usb charger, you can take this tool with you on-the-go as well. One of the reasons why this tool has made it to the top of my must-have beauty tools ever, is that not only is it super effective- it doesn't cost over $40!!! = LOVE! :)
- Only costs around $40! :0 That makes this unique beauty tool a steal- especially when comparing to similar tools!
- Easy to use.
- Takes just 2 mins. per ea. area/blemish.
- Prevents the battery from being drained with smart device shut-off function that turns off the device if inactive for 20+ secs.
- Can't get wet = risk of shock and also damage to the unit itself.
- Long-life battery & small size, make it perfect for on-the-go & vacation/trips!
- Safe & effective for ALL skin types :)
- You'll have to do this 3 times a day- for ea. area. That doesn't seem like a lot of time, but if you're break-out prone like myself and first starting out with treatment, this could add up quickly.
- Charging can take 2-4 hrs. and you must use the provided usb charging cord.
- Auto-shut-off function will shut the device off after only 10 mins. of usage- this is nice to prevent over-heating, but annoying if trying to treat more than 5 areas at a time [as you must wait a couple of mins. to let the unit cool down & prevent burning of skin].
- Should not be used on severe or non-inflammatory acne. Also not highly recommended if sensitive to light- it may result in discoloration or cause issues for chronic migraine sufferers as well. [I however, have both of these issues and did not have any adverse effects.]
Effective, unique, & easy-to-use treatment that won't break the bank.
