Rosehips: The Natural Anti-Aging Weapon!
Rosehips are actually the fruit of the rose plant and are normally bright red to orange in color, but they can be come in a variety of other shades such as deep purple & black as well. Their formation occurs in early spring & summer, when the roses themselves have been pollinated. By the end of the summer and all the way through autumn, the rose hips will ripen and are then ready for harvest.
These often-bright fruits have a unique place in history when they were encouraged to be eaten by residents in England, during WWII. The British government held a campaign that advised people to collect supplemental food supplies by foraging for natural options such as rose hips. The Times featured a few recipes in a couple of different articles from The Ministry of Health & Dept. Of Health for Scotland, in 1941 & 1942; these featured rosehips as the main ingredient- they also stated how these powerful fruits provide excellent amounts of Vitamin C.
Native Americans have used rosehips for thousands of years, to treat a variety of ailments and are aware of their high content of: Vitamin C, A, & B. They found the fruit to be a great mineral-rich resource during the harsher winter months, when these types of plants are quite scarce. In fact, rosehips have 60 times more Vitamin C than a Lemon and it only takes around 3 rose hips to equal the amount of Vitamin C in an orange :0 This means that this fantastic fruit has a lot to offer in natural goodness- for your body & skin!
When it comes to the skin in particular, rosehips have more to offer than you might think! For starters, rosehips are free radical assassins- tiny little powerhouses that fight the signs of aging by destroying free radicals...stopping those pesky signs in aging dead in their tracks ;) Now... for a bit of science:
In an article featured in the National Center for Biotechnology Information under the Pharmacognosy Reviews, there is published study on the possible effects of herbs and the protection they may offer when it comes to ultraviolet radiation. It advises that Vitamin C or ascorbic acid, is key in encouraging collagen production and improved photoprotection and that rosehips are an excellent source of Vitamin C- in its active form! This means that the anti-inflammatory properties of this all-important mineral will give photoprotection an added boost- even allowing for your skin to heal past damage caused by sun exposure!

Patchouli & Buriti Body Lotion
I've become quite a fan of Nubian Heritage, I must admit ;) It's mostly due to their fabulous products that aren't packed full of yucky ingredients and don't cost tons of cash. They also happen to offer up a variety of great unique scents and with the vast variety they have, I'm sure that there's at least one that you will love as well.
One of their newest collections is currently being sold and featured at Ulta.com- the Patchouli & Buriti collection! Each product also contains rosehips and wealth of other wonderful organic products that are good for your skin- not harmful :) Organic Shea Butter and coconut oil will leave your skin feeling and looking moisturized and soft with this awesome body lotion, pictured above- it happens to also be my fav item of all 3 that I'm featuring here today at The Beauty Closet.
I really noticed how this lotion improved my skin's elasticity, smoothness, and firmness- plus it smells wonderful! It won't leave any greasiness behind and feel free to apply this product quite generously, as there's a decent amount provided at about 13 fl oz. for around $13 :) That makes this product a good deal too! If you've been on the hunt for a decent body lotion that improves firmness, this is an excellent option that won't break the bank.
Patchouli & Buriti 24 Hour Deodorant
Due to my super sensitive skin, I'm a bit on the picky side when it comes to deodorants. The yucky chemicals & fragrances often cause adverse reactions with my skin and if they don't cause skin issues, they have other problems like effectiveness or lasting throughout the day. You might have experienced some of these issues yourself and wondered if natural deodorants were even good alternatives.
It turns out, that there are some currently out on the market that actually know what they're doing and have curated some wonderful alternatives as a result. These also don't cause any problems with my skin and Nubian Heritage's 24 Deodorant is one of those products. The Patchouli & Buriti scent pictured above is one of many that they offer, so there are other great smells to choose from as well :)
I particularly loved the one above, as the scent is just the right balance for summer: light, fresh- not too over-powering, but does an effective job of combating sweat & odor too! Most natural deodorant products can cost twice as much, but you can snag Nubian Heritage's deodorant for around $8 each :) A little bonus I noticed about this deodorant- it does a fab job of smoothing my underarm area, which is not something I've noticed with any deodorant before.
Patchouli & Buriti Bar Soap
[Toning & Uplifting]*
*ulta.com pricing & with special discount offer: Buy 1, get 1 at 50% off! Add 2 items to qualify!!
At this fantastic price, you can snag a couple of bar soaps in another one of Nubian Heritage's great scents ;) I'm not into using bar soaps that much, but I wanted to give this one an honest try to see if perhaps Nubian Heritage could change my mind about bar soaps in general.
One of my biggest problems with them? They tend to majorly over-dry my skin, leaving it feeling worse than before I jumped in the shower :/ To make things worse, it does't usually leave my skin feeling soft, hydrated, or smooth and I often notice a sort of residue left behind as well :(
Fortunately though, I didn't have a bit of those issues with this bar soap from Nubian Heritage- at all! It left my skin looking & feeling clean, sloft, and tightened. There was no dryness to speak of and I was shocked at the $5 price-tag...I currently have liquid soaps that I've spent almost 3 x's on and they don't leave my skin looking or feeling the way this bar soap does.
As for the scent? It's wonderful as well, powered with rosehip seed oil & organic Shea Butter- this bar soap is affordable and void of unwanted & unhealthy ingredients. If you've been seeking a decent bar soap with organic ingredients in a truly quality product, this is the way to go!
