The Beauty Closet's Julep Maven Box July 2016 Un-Boxing:

by Christina

It's That Time Again...The July 2016 Maven Box Has Arrived!

It's hard to believe that I've been a Julep Maven now for a couple of years and I especially look forward to this time of year, as it tends to be a season that Julep will release a multitude of new lip colors, new nail shades, & other newly introduced skincare products. This month I received an extra treat since I was able to snag this month's box with my Jules points, which means I didn't have to spend a dime on my July box! :)

You can choose to go with the selections that Julep chooses for you or you can customize your box and add or remove the items you want, which is what I decided to do this month. I didn't care too much for the new shades that were chosen for me and I also wanted to throw in an "add-on" item. Julep normally offers up extra items that can be added to your monthly Maven Box and you may use your accrued bonus Jules points too! Check out what I ended up choosing below:

The Beauty Closet's July 2016 Julep Un-Boxing:

WHAT I GOT:

  1. Sheer Lip Butter in "Primrose" $22
  2. Nail Polish- Annalise [Boho Glam: Vivid Wisteria Ghost Iridescent] $12
  3. Nail PolishFleur [It Girl: Evening Bloom Matte Glitter] $12
  4. *ADD-ON- Water Droplet Decals $6

This box would normally cost around $30 at the regular monthly box pricing, but if you were to snag these items individually then you'd be looking at around a $52 total. The Primrose Sheer Lip Butter was actually my fav item out of the entire box- it leaves me lips feeling soft and smooth, without being sticky or goopy! I loved the shade as well- it's perfect for most skin types and even works well with my super fair skin.

As an added bonus, all of the new Sheer Lip Butter shades contain a broad spectrum SPF 30 and that makes them a great candidate for the summer :) Packed full of good-for-you ingredients like: Shea Butter, Broccoli seed oil, Rosehip seed oil, & Black Currant seed oil, the formula is light-weight & actually good for your lips!

Annalise Nail Polish

I wasn't a big fan of the Fleur nail polish as it was a bit less opaque than what I was hoping for- I thought it was going to be more of a sheer & lighter color, but it turned out to be darker and a lot less sheer online. I will say though, that I will still end up trying it out and perhaps mixing it with a lighter unique white shade; I can layer this shade on top and it has the ability to change the color it lays on top of and creates a cool, unique pearlescent shade as a result.

As for the Annalise nail polish, this is one that I actually love- it's a dark sheer color with flecks of matte glitter. It's also great for layering with other lighter shades, which allows for you to create a variety of looks. The water-drop decals were just something I wanted to add to my box as a fun item, but I admit that for the regular pricing of $6 a pack- this isn't a bad deal for creating a super unique nail look that really stands out ;) They are almost effortless as you simply peel them off and place them wherever you'd like on your nails, once your polish has completely dried! Follow application of the decals with 1-2 coats of clear top coat and this make them last longer by sealing the decals onto your nails.

Overall, I liked the majority of the items in my box and the Sheer Lip Butter in "Primrose" was definitely my fav product of of this month's Maven Box. At around a little over a $20 discount- versus the regular pricing, I would say that it was a fairly decent deal as well. I'm excited to see what they come up with for the fall... I can't wait to see what Julep has in store for August! Make sure to be on the lookout for my next Julep Maven Box review ;)
