Cocoa...Mango...Shea Butter- What's the Difference?!
Although all of these might have butter attached to their names, there are quite a few important differences between the 3! Cocoa butter is usually palish-yellow in color; it's often utilized in cooking and some foods like chocolate, but it's also used in things like pharmaceuticals & ointments. It also happens to have a pleasant cocoa flavor & smell, as it's derived from whole cocoa beans that are fermented, roasted, and then removed from their hulls. What remains is up to around a 60% composition of cocoa butter.
Cocoa butter is super rich in saturated fats that come mostly from stearic & palmitic acids, but it contains only minuscule amounts of caffeine. Packed full of natural antioxidants, it's a great natural moisturizer alternative that fights the signs of aging as well.
Mango butter on the other hand, is derived from as the name implies- the [stone] fruit of a mango. Through the process of hydraulic pressure or solvent extraction, the fat is withdrawn from dried mango kernels. These kernels are generally sun dried and then roasted via a drum roaster, with the kernels then being manually removed from the hulls. It can also be used as a substitute for cocoa butter for the manufacturing of chocolate.
Mango butter is high in monounsaturated fats & omega-6 fatty acids, making it an excellent natural moisturizer that literally melts when it comes into contact with your skin! Shea butter is usually white, off-white, & ivory in color and is made up of fat that's pulled from the nut of the African shea tree. This butter can be created from a variety of methods including separating & cracking, crushing, roasting, grinding, separating the oils, and collecting & shaping. Also high in fatty acids, shea butter contains up to 60% oleic acid and it melts upon skin contact.
As shea butter offers up excellent water-binding properties, it's often used in lip glosses, moisturizers, & hair conditioners. It's even used for candle-making and cooking in some African countries. There have been promising research results showing that it has some anti-inflammatory properties and some limited capacity to reduce the effects of ultraviolet radiation. A classification system has also been created for shea butter that's composed of 5 grades: A - E [raw/unrefined - w/contaminants].

Purifying Body Exfoliator
I couldn't resist sneaking this item in today with the above recommended body butters from Earth Therapeutics- it's fantastic! It's one of the few body scrubbers that I've come across, of its kind: infused with medicinal charcoal into a purifying body exfoliator sponge, this body exfoliator gently scrubs away dead skin- while enhancing the cleansing process by drawing out impurities through the infused charcoal.
Composed of 100% Nylon that's embedded with bamboo charcoal powder, you get cleansed skin with unclogged pores. Your skin will also be soft, ultra-smooth, and healthy! Each sponge is sealed and comes in a resealable storage pouch, with an attached hanging ring for easy drying & convenience.
