YEAH...IT'S HERE! :)
I really do look forward to getting my monthly Maven Box from Julep these days. With graduation looming around the corner in just a few months in May, there's not much time or extra cash laying around! Fortunately for my super sweet fiance, I was able to snag a gift subscription for a few months :) He was able to get a fairly decent pricing for a 6 boxes, which means I have something to look forward to as a special personalized beauty treat from Julep for half a year. I admit that when I first began the service a couple of years ago, I wasn't fully on-board and wasn't quite sure I would end up keeping the service.
Although I consider them to be unique in the subscription box world, I think that it's something the company has grown into over time and not necessarily how it started out- at least for me. Their colors were okay for me in the beginning, although their polishes have always seemed to be of a good quality. Julep also didn't have much to show for as far as other beauty products and just hadn't branched out as much as they have now- with new and inventive makeup, skincare, and nail products they now come out with constantly!
One of the reasons why they were so successful in doing this, was because they actually listen to what their customers want. Jane Park, the founder of Julep, holds monthly gatherings online for other Mavens and those who are interested in checking out what they are all about. In them, she shares a personal story, a sneak-peek at upcoming new products for the month, and even offers up a chance for us to share our thoughts, opinions, and ask her questions. If you ever do have an issue- whether it's with billing or your items, etc.- they have fantastic customer service that stays on top of a problem and gets is resolved fairly quickly.
The boxes have become more personalized as well and you can now really choose the overall set-up in addition to specific products you want to be in your upcoming box. I learned something new recently too: if you do happen to be given a gift subscription and you want to use it BUT you ARE already a current Julep member [Maven], you can STILL utilize the gift subscription. I did have a slight issue with applying mine., but I was able to get assistance from customer service who fixed the issue and manually applied the code for me so that I could receive my 6 month sub.
Also, you still rack up points [called Jules] that can be used towards future Maven boxes, add-ons, and select items in the Maven Store for current members. As for the newer products, Julep has done a fantastic job of listening to what people want :) Some of my fav's from the past year: Plush Pout Lip Crayons, Lock Down Your Brows Iconic Brow Gel, and the What Your Skin Needs Restorative Facial Milk. This was a great box and I knew it was going to be...after all- I DID pick it out ;) The nail polishes were something that I was excited for as I was really into the colors this time around. The Kris and Janice colors would be perfect if you LOVE sparkle and glitter in maximum capacity, but they may not be for everyone. I happen to dig these types of shiny and glitzy nail colors, but I do understand they aren't preferred by all.
The Melody polish which turns out is a super light glazed pinkish-tint with some sparkle, would be an excellent alternative for those with less glam in mind :) It's also a super fun polish that's made to be shaken up and sounds as though it has an extra ball inside of it, just for that purpose as it makes a nice little rattling sound when shaken. The glitter inside the polish that tends to rest on the bottom then shakes around inside of Melody, until it resembles a miniature pink snow-globe!
As for the Facial Milk skin hydrator, it does just what it claims it does! There's a very quick absorption into the skin and is packed full of awesome, good-for-your ingredients like Olive oil, Jojoba oil, and plant-derived Squalene [this is what helps the formula absorb faster and deeper into the skin]. This is a great product for application before your makeup since it doesn't leave yucky residue behind and doesn't take long to absorb fully into your skin :)
I have can tend to have oily skin and I was a bit hesitant with using a type of product containing this many oils, but I didn't have any of problems with the product at all. The extra little treat this month- the candy, I did not care for all that much and actually gave this one away to my son. I'm not much of a fan of apple-flavored candy treats and thought he'd get more enjoyment out of it anyways. All in all, this was a very good monthly box and a good reminder of why I look forward to getting my Julep box!
