It's here!...time for The Beauty Closet's December 2015 Julep Un-boxing:

by Christina

Even after being a Maven for almost 2 years now, I still find myself looking forward to my monthly Maven Box from Julep. I admit that we've had our ups-and-downs...but all in all, I've really liked getting a customized box of beauty every month. Around holidays, I especially get excited to see what I might get to pick out for the month and what special extra treat Julep might also include :)

Since I was super lucky this year and my fiance was awesome and got me a 6-month gift subscription, I still have a couple of boxes left- meaning I got the chance to get a holiday box this year! I'm normally pressed for cash around this time as the holidays are a lot more about my son than me and that means I don't always have all that much left by the time the end of this month rolls around. However this year, I got a little beauty holiday treat for myself ;) See what this month's Julep Maven Box was all about below!

Maven Box Review:

  • NAIL POLISH: Makenna- Classic with a Twist [Gilded lilac glitter]. $14
  • MULTIDIMENSIONAL ORBITAL EYESHADOW: Andromeda- Dial up Your Glam [Fig with Chrome Pearlescence]. $18
  • LIP COLOR: Hydrating, liquid-to-matte mousse in "It's Whipped"- Ooh La La [Sepia Taupe]. $20
  • ADD-ONS: A merry-making polish duo- "Oh What Fun" in Suki [It Girl/Ethereal silver chrome] & Rowan [Classic with a Twist/Blackberry sorbet shimmer]. $20* special pricing!
  • BONUSES: Oh Look! Compact Mirror *cinnamon candy cane stick. [the mirror is normally $15, BUT I snagged this free for the add-on that I put on my box- I didn't pay for the add-on as I used some of my stocked-up Jules points to get it!].

This box would normally cost around $25 if you were a Maven and on a monthly subscription as I usually am. However, since I was on a pre-paid gift sub. for 6 Maven boxes AND I utilized some of my stashed Jules points, I didn't have to spend a dime for this entire box...yeah :) If you add up individual pricing as all of my choices for this month can be purchased on their own at as well, it totals around $87 :0 This means that even if you weren't quite as lucky as myself this December, you could still have gotten this entire box for around a $62 savings. That equals awesome in my book! I'm all about savings and this is one of the very reasons that I love Julep so much :)

Oh What Fun Nail Polish Duo

Oh What Fun Nail Polish Duo

If you're a Maven and get a monthly box, you are bound to save a decent amount of cash for just picking your box and most of us might spend this much and a lot more on beauty products in a month already! Julep lets me get my beauty splurging out of my system without hurting my wallet in the process. Their December 2015 Maven box was no exception and I was very happy with my picks.

Starting with the Nail Polish Duo, these were 2 colors that I've actually been wanting for a bit, but they are at a much better price-point when they are put together- which is why I waited and it paid off ;) "Suki" is a beautiful silver chromatic color with nothing but shine and great for the holiday, seasonal spirit. Rowan is a little more tamed-down with a beautiful deep berry pearlized color that is really pretty and rich. Julep always makes great color and high-quality polishes that usually will last for days if not over a week for me :0

Makenna Nail Polish

Makenna Nail Polish

As for the other nail color in my box this month- Makenna, this was a newly introduced color that I just had to try as glitter is right up my alley, when it comes to nail polish. What I really like about this color in particular, is the unique Lilac-inspired twist on what might be an otherwise run-of-the-mill silver polish, giving it a light and fun vibe. I've tried a couple of the Multi-dimensional orbital eyeshadows from Julep before and I LOVED them, so I knew this color was going going to be fabulous before I even gave it a try. I was definitely right: the color is buildable, blendable, and gorgeous! It's just the right balance of violet and deep purplish berry to be a great color for most skin tones. This was also a newly introduced color to Julep's orbital shadow line.

The Ooh La La Mousse lip color is really unique and I liked that Julep took on this new venture, furthering their lip care options. They already have some fantastic lip colors, glosses, and other products- I knew this one was probably going to be something I would love as well. Not surprisingly, I was correct with my assumption and I really do like the liquid-to-matte mousse approach. This was different for me and I haven't tried this type of texture when going for a lip product in the past and I've obviously been missing out :0

Julep's Matte Lip Mousse Collection

Julep's Matte Lip Mousse Collection

I'm really not a huge fan of matte lip colors, but not only did this product feel wonderful going on- it left my lips feeling so soft and smooth. The color is really well-pigmented too and you get just what you're looking for in a matte lipstick-except it feels nothing like it all and instead, just wonderfully pleasant. I also love the packaging of this product as it's nicely and sleekly designed, with a well-made applicator wand as well.

I would have to say this was my favorite item out of the entire Maven Box this month! Lastly, the 2 little extras that I received in my box were nice little surprises; I'd completely forgotten about the compact mirror being included for my add-on that I put on my box. I didn't know about the included candy, although Julep often does add in a little extra treat now in our boxes each month, so I suppose I wasn't that surprised about it ;)
