WANT TO SKIP THE BOLD RED LIPS?!
Although this trend is big right now-especially for Valentine's Day, I'm not always a fan. With super fair skin, brighter red shades can end up having the opposite effect than what I'm going for. I've also found that these colors can pose other issues too, like more frequent application as they tend not to wear well throughout the entire day. My way around this is to create a pretty smokey, bold eye and an easy neutral lip. You can utilize a variety of products to achieve a beautiful neutral lip that looks fabulous with lip pencils, sticks, crayons, glosses, & lip paints. I recently came across an awesome set from Sephora that will let you accomplish a variety of nude lip looks and it's under $30 :) Make sure to get the lowdown about this awesome set below!
THE BEAUTY CLOSET RECOMMENDS:
Give Me Some Nude Lip Set
This is an excellent starter set that includes 3 full-sized items and 2 sample-sized lip products as well. The set includes: NUDESTIX Lip+Cheek pencil in Whisper, Tarte tarteist lip paint in Namaste, Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Milky Way, Marc Jacobs Beauty poutliner Longwear Lip Pencil in Prime[rose], & NARS Cosmetics Lipstick in Dolce Vita. My top pick out of the entire set was the NUDESTIX Lip+Cheek pencil- the color was perfect and the stick was super easy to use! It glides on nicely and leaves a matte finish.
I like lining my lips and then filling in with the same pencil. You can follow with a tinted or clear shiny gloss for an extra pop of shine and glam as well- or you can use alone for a natural, matte look. The Whisper color of the NUDESTIX is something that is universally flattering and will work for most skin tones :) The Laura Mercier Creme lip color came in a close second for me as the quality of formula made it a dream to apply and the color seemed to grab on like a magnet and stay put.
This color was also a perfect match for me, even with super fair skin. I was a bit torn as for the 3rd top spot out of the set, but Tarte's tartiest lip paint just missed a 2nd place spot after a bit of debating. Although this product appears to be more of a gloss in the clear tube and it even goes on as a gloss with a soft-tip, angled applicator- but the end result is more of a matte type of feel/look. The big plus for me on this one in particular, is the great minty fresh taste- I've rarely come across similar products that are great tasting to boot ;)
When it come to the remaining 2 products, I didn't really care that much for the color of the NARS lipstick. I liked the feel and formula of the product itself, but the color just wasn't quite right for me and more on the cooler side than I usually care for. This would be an excellent choice for most skin tones however and if it hadn't been for the color, I might have rated it 2nd. As for the final item- the Marc Jacobs Poutliner, this only made the last spot on my fav's due to it's limited size- both it's sample option and the thinness of the pencil itself.
I often don't utilize liners that often and when I do, I usually stick with thicker/wider options that I can use as a lip color as well. There was an issue of it lasting too and I couldn't really tell I was using it- this is normally a good thing when it comes to creating natural-looking nude lips, but there I saw almost no difference and no point to using this one. All in all, I found this to be a great set and for $28, it's affordable to get the perfect Valentine's Day nude lips :)
