Have You Tried the Oil Cleansing Method? Learn All About OCM and The Beauty Closet's Facial Oil Tips + Recommended Product from: Fresh- Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil

by Christina in , , , ,

This unique face cleanser is often known by "OCM" and is often mixed with a combination of oils. Some oils commonly found in these washes are: castor [organic cold-pressed], olive, jojoba, coconut, grapeseed, seaberry, almond, argan, & more!

The ancient Romans utilized this method by rubbing oil directly into the skin and then using a strigil or cleansing tool, created for scraping off dirt from the skin during bathing. OCM was not however commercially produced and sold until the 19th century, where it became very popular in Korean & Japanese cultures- before making the move to parts of Europe and North America.

The reason why this method is surprisingly effective, comes from the idea in chemistry that "like dissolves like" or the Dissolution Theory; most cleansers of today take just the opposite approach by using water-based cleansers to dissolve dirt and oil- which is why they are often not near as effective :0 Want to know more?! Make sure to check out below The Beauty Closet's cleansing oil tips- plus my recommended facial oil of the month from fresh!

  1. Make sure you pick the right combination of oils that are good for your skin; for example: many have issues with Castor oil and it either causes irritation due to sensitive skin or it causes them to break out [as it does me!]. That's okay though- there are plenty alternatives to having a castor-based cleanser and Argan is a good alternative.
  2. For stubborn dirt and built-up makeup and oil: after rubbing the oil directly into your skin, steam your face with a warm wash cloth [press onto your face and hold for 1-2 mins. and repeat 4 times] OR you can utilize a pan on stove and boil some water- hold your face over the pan for 2-3 mins. to steam.
  3. Rinse your face with warm water- not cold! The warm water will aid the cleanser with pulling the hardened oil and dirt packed into pores :) Pat your skin dry with a dry wash cloth or towel.
  4. Don't overdo it! You really don't need much of a good quality facial oil- just about a quarter-sized amount; you can rub your hands together after putting this dollop into your palm and this will warm up the product before application too.
  5. When it comes to the application itself: blend lightly onto your entire face in small circular motions for 1-3 minutes. Use light to medium pressure and spend an additional minute on trouble areas like your chin and T-zone.

Moisturizing Face Oil

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Fragrance, BHT, Linalool, Limonene, Citral, Coumarin, Geraniol.

If you've been wanting to give a face oil to try- I highly suggest you give this one a chance. It's moderately priced and around the pricing of most other major brands that have also come out with their version of a facial oil. I was really impressed with the lightness of this cleanser- specifically in comparison to other similar items I've tried. It doesn't overdo it, yet absorbs well into the skin and provides excellent natural moisturization as well. All in all, this is a great oil face cleanser for beginners and for those who have tried the gamut! You will love how cleansed and moisturized your face will feel without over-drying or leaving behind unpleasant residue.

When it comes to natural and organic ingredients and approaches to beauty, I'm a huge fan. It's difficult to achieve this 100% of the time of course, but I do attempt to give it my best shot to seek out these types of beauty products when I can. Two of my top picks when it comes to natural ingredients for getting smooth, buffed skin and a beautiful golden glow- even during the winter, are sweet almond oil & lotus extract.

Why? Almonds are Native to South & East Asian and they were first domesticated as early as the Bronze around beginning in 3000 BC, around the Jordan area. The reason being, is that wild almond species are actually toxic to humans as the kernels produce cyanide once they are processed & handled. Fortunately, we were able to eliminate that issue by domesticating the tree! The oil is extracted from the fruit or almonds and the highest quality can be found in Spain.

As an anti-inflammatory that reduces inflammation and a powerful antioxidant, sweet almond oil is wonderful for skin. Almond oil is also a cicatrizant- meaning that it aids in healing wounds and reducing overall healing time, in addition to being a fantastic emollient that provides excellent hydration :)

Lotus extract comes from the Lotus flower which is native to Asia and Australia and is also the national flower of India and Vietnam. This beautiful flower is often cultivated in water gardens due to its aquatic nature and an individual lotus can live for over a thousand years! :0 They even have the unique and uncanny ability to be revived after lying dormant- even for years! Many cultures consume the plant too in different culinary dishes and preparations, including beverages such as herbal tea.

As for its benefits to your skin, there are quite a few :) Lotus extract is very high in antioxidants and is great at fighting the signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots. It's also a great moisturizer and will leave your skin with an awesome glow. Lastly, lotus extract is wonderful for banishing breakouts, preventing acne, and leaving your skin feeling rejuvenated! You may have noticed that the lotus flower that I sometimes include on my site and it also happens to my site button as well ;)

I chose this beautiful flower because of it's wonderful skin benefits and in some cultures, it also represents beauty, elegance, grace. Wondering if you can snag some good beauty products that contain these natural ingredients to bring you a wonderful sun-kissed glow- even during the winter?! You can! If you want to get an awesome glow with an effortless approach, this is definitely the way to go. I love that this product is formulated with good-for-you ingredients- including lotus and sweet almond extract! It comes with a easy-application mitt that also prevents you from getting your hands stained and making a mess.

You will want to let this dry for at least 4 hours and avoid wearing clothing that you're not super fond of until it dries [if you can, try avoid clothing until it's fully absorbed into the skin], therefore I recommend utilizing this after you get out of the shower and either at night or when you aren't planning to go out for a good part of the day.

I got really nice results with this even though I have very fair and sensitive skin and that was actually surprising as I often end up looking like more of a carrot with self-tanners. I didn't have those issues at all with this one from Svelta :) I would recommend this product for any woman of any age or skin type.

Luxe Coffee & Raw Sugar Body Scrub

Organic sucrose (Turbinado sugar), Ground roasted coffea arabica (Coffee) beans, Extra-virgin olea europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Elettaria cardamomum (Cardamom) oil, Natural vitamin E tocopherols, Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis) extract, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) oil.

This is one of my favorite scrubs of all-time! I love the way it smells- there's the perfect balance & blend of coffee and sugar scent all rolled into one :) Your skin will be left hydrated, smooth, and have a luminous glow. I noticed that I didn't really feel the need to apply moisturizer after getting out of the shower as I normally do- this did the trick and I just didn't need it!

As Svelta makes this product as well, this is an excellent companion to utilize before applying the self-tanner that I mentioned above. Although this product is almost $50, it's definitely made with natural & quality ingredients that really work- plus there's a generous size which means that you aren't going to go through this product for a while. Looking for the perfect skincare gift for the beauty-lover in our life?- this would be a great choice!
