"Which Brush Should I Choose...?!"
1. For Liquid Foundation:
Stick with stiffer, slightly angled brushes that are sculpted/tapered for precision and perfect for liquid foundation application. Go for tapered bristles, a consistent density [so that you can reach all corners & areas of the face] and that lets you blend the foundation well into the skin. I've also found that synthetic fibers work best for liquid foundation brushes as they will wash & rinse clean, without harboring moisture & bacteria; liquids tend to seep deep into natural brush fibers and it's difficult to get it completely clean or prevent bacteria from growing [eww!]
2. Concealer Brush:
When it comes to brushes, choosing the right concealer brush can be one of the most challenging...! Your best bets are to stick with double-ended versions that allow for both precision of places such as blemishes & dark spots and to assist with a larger buffing end to help conceal more difficult skin issues like hyperpigmentation & redness. Go for brushes that let you build coverage and avoid streaking.
This trend doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon...if you haven't snagged a decent contouring brush, this is something you will want to add to your brush collection in the near future! A dome-shaped brush [like the one from Benefit, pictured above] that is plush, soft, and a full shape will ensure that you get the right amount of product on the brush to get the perfect definition.
4. For blending & removing excess product:
Want to easily remove excess product without causing streaking or unpleasant results? A fan brush is an excellent option that makes cleaning up excess powder, super easy. Also great for blending bronzer & for highlighting, you are sure to get professional looking results with this large, flat, fan-shaped brush! Stick with a synthetic fiber & natural hair blend [like the one from Kevyn Aucoin pictured above].
5. Skip the brush:
One of the best blending and application makeup sponges of all time, beautyblender is a unique tool that gives professional and flawless results- without having to use your fingers OR a brush! Since its birth, there has been a multitude of brands and versions that have emerged, making it an affordable option :)
6. For the Eyes & Other Delicate Areas:
Need a brush that gives you fine application that's gentle on delicate areas like around the eyes? Look for one that gives you control, is angled to allow precise application- like the one pictured below from BrushCraft. Find out more about this awesome brush, below!
The Beauty Closet Recommends:
BrushCraft was born from the makers of Artis Brushes and the collection is a bit more affordable too! The brush fibers have also been re-vamped and the BrushCraft brushes are composed of NuFibre- a uniquely curated engineered fiber that's compiled into bundles composed of more fibers in each bundle than that of the traditional animal hair brushes. With an innovative, yet simple design that's easy for anyone to appreciate- it's easy to see why I'm quite a fan of these brushes myself ;)
The one pictured above- Oval #3, is a the perfect shape to apply eyeshadow products and it's also great for applying concealer! I love that each brush arrives nicely boxed in a re-usable case that's good for storage as well. You won't be disappointed by the quality, design, and ease-of-use that you get with this brush :)
